HEaTED NW news and update
Thanks to Natalie Kennerley for giving permission to post this:

Networking events for technical staff, website, courses and CPD support
I’m Sandra Taylor and I recently took over as the North West Coordinator for HEaTED. If you have not heard of HEaTED, they offer support to technical staff in higher education who want help with Continuing Professional Development (CPD), opportunities to network, and also help with professional registration via the Science Council. HEaTED work with the Science Council, with the Gatsby Foundation, and with the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) and other professional bodies.
If your institution is already a member of HEaTED then it’s free for technical staff to become an individual member. There is also the option to become individual members and there are details on the new look HEaTED website, where there are many useful resources and an online discussion forum:
The regional networking events are free for all to attend, and once you register with HEaTED you will get regular email updates about events and courses coming up. The next regional networking meeting will be in Lancaster and there are details of how to register here:
There are also two courses, each two days, due to run in Manchester: Teaching and learning skills for technical staff module one on 27 and module two 28 June 2016, and also Leadership and management skills for technical staff module one on 4 and module two 5 July 2016.
As well as being a Coordinator for HEaTED I can also assist with the process of professional registration as I am a trained assessor with the IST, so please feel free to contact me with any questions around this, or about HEaTED networking events or anything related that you want to know:
Last but not least, there is now a new UK National Centre for Professional Technicians in Higher Education, based in Sheffield and working in partnership with the IST. One part of this is to promote local TechNet initiatives, as well as professional registration. Terry Croft will be speaking about this, along with representatives from Manchester and Lancaster on 30 June 2016 at the North West Networking meeting in Lancaster. Please do come along!
